What are the best credit cards for an IB analyst?
I'll be starting at a BB in NYC this summer. I'm thinking of getting a credit card or two to help in my goal of saving money. I have about 3 years of credit history and a 765 fico score. I've been looking at the Amex blue cash preferred and the gold card. The blue cash preferred because of the 6% cashback on groceries. The gold for dining points and because I travel quite a lot (not sure I'll be able to do this when I start work). Since we get free dinner after 8 pm or so, would I be able to use my personal card for this and just request a refund from work?
Thanks!
Amex cobalt - relatively cheap annual fee with really great rewards on cabs / food delivery. Basically designed for bankers.
Don't worry about groceries, you wont be doing any cooking...
is amex cobalt just for canadian citizens or is there one for US citizens?
We have corporate cards how does it work
Bills directly to your firm and you just submit receipts for an expense report that your admin will take care of.
Unfortunately you cant earn rewards on this spend.
Also interested; i hear the two main choices are AMEX cobalt (as above mentioned) and Chase Sapphire Reserve i believe. Curious to know which is more common and why
Lots of senior bankers have higher end AMEX cards for the travel perks. Personally would have upgraded but my bank gave me a corporate card which captures 90% of my meals / ubers.
Your dad's.
but being serious,
get a platinum or chase sapphire reserve, my girlfriend has the gold but I don't see the use since you probably won't buy groceries on a regular basis (i dont), but if your dinner expense is a "refund" from work I would get it too.
Username checks out.
Chase Freedom Unlimited, no annual fee and great cash back benefits. Most of your traveling and meals will be on a corporate card once you start working so it probably won't be worth getting a Sapphire or equivalent cards. Pretty easy to run through your bank statements to figure out your spending habits (if you have chase they have a feature that does all this for you) and just crunch the numbers and see what makes sense.
Mastercard/Citi Double Cash card. Earn 2% back on every purchase. 1% when you buy, 1% when you pay. Adds up long-term.
Just FYI in NYC you might end up doing lots of grocery shopping at places like Target or your corner store, which won't get you the 6% back. Don't think there are a ton of grocery stores that will qualify, unless you live near a Trader Joe's / Whole Foods
