What are the best SIE / Series 79 / Series 63 prep material
Will be joining a LMM regional bank in IB and want prepare for the SIE / series 79 & 63 exam ahead of time. What are the best resource? Does most banks typically give you prepping material? What happen if I’m joining off cycle?
My firm provided Knopman Marks for all 3 exams and I can't speak to the other materials/other services, but this has been solid so far.
Use the Materials your company provides you. they should have some floating around or will buy you new ones. Most likely, you will need to order your materials from HR on day one of you joining. In additon to study materials the Parent Organizations of the test provide outlines:
SIE: https://www.finra.org/sites/default/files/SIE_Content_Outline.pdf
63: https://www.nasaa.org/exams/exam-content-outlines/series-63-exam-conten…
79: https://www.finra.org/registration-exams-ce/qualification-exams/series79
I have found these to be helpful to guide studying. there is also a Mock SIE Test online as well.

Firm also used Knopman Marks. Their practice tests are really good, in-depth prep. Repetition is key for these exams, especially in regards to all the nitty-gritty regulatory questions.
I followed the action plan that was laid out and read the entire book first.
Also, was it just me or are the unit assessments (ones by chapter) pretty hard?
I thought they were difficult too. The actual exams were easier than the practice. I started off by reading the textbook but then moved on to the action plan / watching videos. The videos are more engaging / succinct so they helped me retain info more easily.
Totally agree, glad that I'm not the only one cause I am not doing too hot on these unit assessments lol. Nonetheless, I got like a 63% on the test that they have you take after you finish reading the book.
How long did you spend on the knopman sie book before starting
Do banks usually give you time to study for it? I’m supposedly joining a sweatshop and I would hate to study for it while working 80-90 hours at the same time.
Interested as well.
depends on your bank - if you are lateraling in and have to take the exams than I pray for you.
but if you join a program over the summer, then its fine.
I joined laterally and its been hell - cause your swamped with work and still have to study for all the exams
What’d you lateral from?
I'm the founder of Achievable test prep (see: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/finra-sie-exam-prep-course) and can add some extra color on the exam and the effectiveness of our course.
Given that this is your career on the line, it's important that you do your research and pick a program that you feel confident in. We've made a comparison chart to help you out - https://achievable.me/exams/finra-sie/compare/#a_aid=wso
I would suggest using STCUSA
