What are the worst things about being a fresh analyst / junior employee?

What are the worst and most frustrating aspects/tasks of being a brand new investment banker?

I am a software developer and I'm looking to build tools that help the bottom line of large investment banks.

Often times, I read about how fresh analysts are worked to the bone. 80 hours a week on things like financial modeling and slide decks, like a trial by fire. Good software solves problems, and I want to know the sh*ttiest parts of being a fresh analyst so that I can build software that makes the most fundamental tasks more efficient. My best guesses right now are manually inputting data from financial statements or modeling equations into Excel for valuations, M&A, IPO, cash flow, and other models, as well as putting together redundant slide decks.

If you are tired of being treated like a spreadsheet robot or doing the same crap over and over again, please complain loudly about the worst aspects of being a brand new analyst. Even if you have since advanced beyond it, just let me know. Get it off your chest, air your grievances. Your unfiltered venting is our mutual opportunity.

Thank you.

Sorry to tell you this but most of the problems you've laid out are already solved by the likes of FactSet or being outsourced to internal/external teams

"FactSet Research Systems annual revenue for 2022 was $1.844B, a 15.86% increase from 2021"

Hmm not a bad idea huh?

If this hurdle has been overcome, what kind of tasks are new analysts focused on throughout the day?

I am sure the role is constantly evolving along with technology.

What do you feel are the main bottlenecks / busy work?

come up with a good tool to easily convert hand drawn slides into ppt slides, ie: basic shapes, text, etc… won’t look like the final product after making edits but it’ll save time when building new slides
