What did I do wrong? (SA 27 Recruitment)

I know I'm probably cooked. I've accepted that by this late in the cycle. I'm aware that much of it is luck of the draw, or timing, or some other slew of factors that are out of my control.

I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly went wrong with my process. My only sources of solace in these past few weeks have been the hopeless "I'm in the same boat too" conversations with the handful of my friends who have ended up in similarly unfortunate situations.

I started networking in September. I go to a target school and am in generally good clubs at said school. I have a 4.0 GPA. I have several relevant awards and programs on my resume. I've sent well over a thousand emails to nearly every bank indiscriminantly, following up on every non-responding banker at least two times. I personalized every single email (I know this because when bankers did respond, some of them commented on how thoughtful the email was). I went to at least one info session for every bank that I applied to. I sent in my applications the instant that the portal opened for each bank. For each call that I did land (the few that did, because rarely anyone responded to my emails - not even my club alumni), most chats were around 30 minutes long, and I always followed up afterwards - I had a handful of strong chats. I was told that I had referrals at a (very) small handful of banks.

Despite all of this, I have genuinely received zero sell side interview invites to this day.

What do I do, chat?
