What do I do have slept 3 hours every night this week

On deal sprint only analyst from my team in this deal at mm bank, it’s not that I even have a lot work(i do) it’s that I’m so tired that everything is slow. Body breaking down. Sense of time gone. Was in office last night and didn’t know where I was. Hitting a breaking point. Am I weak?

Pretty sure this is just a normal human reaction and anyone who tells you otherwise is a nonce. If you are sleeping less than 6 hours continously, it is medically very bad for you. Consuming things like Celsius only make it worse for your health. With that being said: it's worn as a badge of honor to work long hours in IB for some groups culturally. Some people in IB truly care about nothing more than money and working hard, which is why IB has worse hours than most PE firms even if the work is easier from a thinking perspective.

You're not weak. Your body is screaming at you. Listen to it. I really hate the finance industry for this shit. I really hope you get some time to rest, because this will actually have health consequences

Bump this. You really need to listen to your body and push back on additional work. Yes your team will understand.

Coming from someone who didn’t listen to their health, I promise you it’s not worth it. One you push beyond a certain point, the recovery can be quite long, and painful.

Get some rest.

Tell your team you have been getting killed and are noticing a drop in your effectiveness / function and need to get some sleep. Take a one night reset and log off by 10 and actually get some sleep. Your team will respect you for this if they’re decent bankers at all. If they’re psychopathic mongoloids, then their opinion of you doesn’t matter more than your health anyway

One good full night of sleep makes all the difference sometimes

Just talk to your team. The human body isn’t made to sleep so little, and nobody can really do it. People that work such long hours for decades just become dumber and dumber with crippling health. Have you ever met a smart senior banker or one that doesn’t have some sort of health issue? If they don’t listen just go to sleep anyway at a good time at least one night next week. Remember, in 5y banking will probably only be a (blurred) memory. The effects of this will last though so don’t ignore your body

You’re not letting anybody down And you won’t get fired

You even said you don’t have that much work going on. Just go to sleep! If you don’t help yourself nobody will. I’m sorry to say but you have to grow some balls and take your sleep back for a bit. In your current stage you’re not helping either yourself or team. Go to sleep

Seriously

Leave the office at midnight. Go to bed at 1230 wake up at 8. Have a glass of herbal tea before you sleep and turn off your phone. Have a proper shower and breakfast and be in the office at 915. Communicate this exact plan to your team.  No one will be let down, no deal will die.

I have only respected the analysts who communicate well, take care of themselves and are efficient in the office, I have had issues with analysts who work them selves ragged for no good reason.

ify bro in a similar spot (not as bad) where i’ve built up a good image so when I get swamped it’s tough to keep
up. At the end of the day everyone goes through things, just get through this sprint / work as efficiently as possible and then take some solid rest. Maybe call in sick after.

If its just 1-2 projects, then you either have an a-hole associate / vp creating unncessary work for you or yes, you may be a little bit inefficient right now and have a bit of a learning curve to get up mastering shortcut keys, etc. This pain is normal if you're an analyst 1, but just know you'll get much faster over time and learn how to properly pushback on unncessary analyses / slides.

Nutrition and hydration also goes a long way. You may want to cool it on the caffeine as its tempting to load up all the time, but throw in some waters between drinks. You'll be surprised at how much this actually impacts things. After 8pm, unless you know you for sure will be there after midnight - don't drink anymore caffeine.

If its 3+ projects, might be time to use strategic incompetence. Rather than submitting you've turned comments right away - wait a little bit and only share if someone asks. Use AI as much as possible - especially for stuff like taking call notes and only respond when asked vs taking initiative. Don't create "your take" on versions of work that might be better, and only follow the exact request without using any of your own creativity - you'll burn out and they pay you to just do what they say at the end of the day. You won't get fired for being average.

Over time, if it is the latter and you're juggling more than 3 projects at a time, then your staffer should soon realize that this isn't optimal and probably look at spreading the load around better / getting more resources and its a fair conversation to have with them. If it is the case of having a single analyst on 1 single deal (and nothing else), unfortunately you're just gonna have to grind it out and climb the curve a bit.

Quit your fucking job and stop caring. Its that fucking simple. Also stop being on wso. that is good time you could've used to go to sleep. Do better lil bro.
