What is crucial to know if you want to work in structured finance?

Hey Guys!

I am getting closer and closer to job hunting time, since my studies are finished in roughly a year. I can see myself working in alot of different roles, but my interests currently lie in derivatives, structured finance and commodities (math background).

Are there people here working in any structured finance department who would take a minute to tell me what explicit knowledge basis is needed? I read alot about "quantitative background" - I get that. But what are specific things you need in your workplace? Specifc things from stochastic calculus? Full-blown accounting knowledge? Do I need to know how to solve partial differential equations - or be fluent in python, C#, etc.? I'm not sure wether my Uni-knowledge is enough to start working in that department (or rather which part of my Uni-knowledge is relevant at all).

Any insights would be very helpful, since I would love to "prepare" myself for the (potential) job well enough to be a help from day one. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,

Escheresque
