What is Raine’s prestige comparable to?

What well known bank is Raine comparable to in terms of prestige? Obviously it’s one of the more unique banks so I’m not wanting a similar company, more just trying to gauge its level.

Some people hype it up and some don’t see the hype. Thanks

I would generally put it behind middle and top groups at top BBs (GS/MS/JPM) and all groups the six EBs (CVP/EVR/MoCo/PJT/PWP/LAZ), but above the average group at BAML/Citi/etc, although some BB groups will be better (ie: BAML LevFin, Citi M&A, etc.). Of course, it depends what your end goals are (ie: Corp dev at a cool Media company vs gunning for MF PE vs Tech PE vs Distressed Investing).

LionTree is probably the closest comp, but it's not really comparable to many traditional banks as they're a true merchant bank and think of themselves as such. Analysts/Associates can spend just as much time (if not more) on the growth equity side of the business vs. advisory. If you look the advisory mandates, they land themselves some marquee M&A deals (Sprint/T-Mobile, Chelsea, etc.) but the bread and butter is private placements and small sell-sides which complement the growth equity business nicely.

Yes - and if analysts want to do traditional buyside recruiting it seems like they can and do get good looks, it just takes a bit more hustle vs. being at a large bulge/boutique. But most do have an interest in media/sports/gaming etc. long-term and will elect to stay as Raine is one of the better platforms in the space, or as you mentioned just exit to a portco/startup that they've worked with or admire.
