What is the best route to Municipal Banking post MBA?

I know I'm one of those people who likes public finance and am eager to make a career of it! I had some good informational interviews with GS and RBC bankers and learned that MBAs are never really recruited for public finance ops (not impossible to accomplish, but just have to work hard to make my case) so I'm looking to find ways to break in.

Looking to become an MD in a banks public finance/muni group and effectively become an industry expert. Want to be in transactions not bond rating for the record.

A fall back would be DCM (debt markets are generally my interest area) so I'm curious to hear feedback on that path post MBA.

Thanks!
