What to write on resume if past company merged?
If you interned at firm A and it merges with another firm B into firm C, would you write firm A or firm C in your resume?
Options I see are: - Firm A - Firm A (now Firm C) - Firm C - Firm C (formerly firm A)
I think the best option would be to just go with "Firm C" since it merged not long after I was there, but is it right to write it this way? Just wanted to know what most people would do. Do I mention that I joined with firm A prior to the merger? Thanks.
I'd write Firm A or Firm A (now Firm C) - you never interned at Firm C, so writing that on your resume seems sus to me
You should pick one of the options with parentheses IMO, but my view is this is one of those times where it's ok to not have a uniform answer and where you should pick whatever positions you best, as long as you can genuinely claim there is overlap (or maybe if the time lag is not egregious).
Let's say you left Simmons right around when it got acquired by Piper. You'd probably want to put something like "Simmons & Co. (acquired by Piper Jaffray in 2018)" since the Simmons name > Piper name (generally speaking). But, if you're trying to get out of O&G, maybe you want to put Piper first so the emphasis on energy isn't as heavy. Not a perfect example since Simmons kept its name post-acquisition, but you get the point.
On the flip side, if you left Greene Holcomb Fisher right around when it got acquired by BMO, putting "BMO" might be the better choice since the BMO name > GHF name. But if you were at GHF 2 years before it got acquired by BMO, for example, putting BMO (formerly GHF) might be too disingenuous.
Also, something to think about is if the firm acquired is truly operating as a standalone unit, or if it was fully folded in. Something like Goldsmith being acquired by Lazard before being rebranded to Lazard MM (with Lazard MM very much its own silo and not that connected to the rest of the Lazard platform) =/= Piper acquiring Edgeview, where Edgeview got pretty integrated into the broader Piper name / brand.
Curious to hear other CU's thoughts on this.
It wasn’t really acquired though. Two companies merged (I know it’s different, but it’s as if you ere working at Accel and then it changed into Accel-KKR. In this case, both Accel & KKR doesn’t exist anymore after the merger)
How long after you worked there did it merge or did this happen while you were there? And are you returning to that firm?
I'm at a firm that has made a lot of acquisitions - at least on linkedin, people list "[current firm name] (fka [pre-acquisition firm name])

I've been through a similar situation. Write this: Accel (Now Accel-KKR)
This has happened to me. I just left the name of the firm and mentioned that it was acquired in interviews.
