What will 1st round interview begin with?
Usually, what will be the 1st question being asked in your 1st round interview? Tell me about yourself/walk me through your CV? Or others? When will interviewers change to ask technical questions if it were a 30 min interview?
1) Tell me about yourself 2) Why IBD, why us 3) Any deal you could talk about? 4) Technicals 5) Do you have any questions for me
I just did 2 30 minute interviews (round 1) for an IB associate position. I wasn’t asked any technicals specifically, but the capability to reference them certainly helped. We talked about my resume and how I could be a fit. When asked if I had any questions I asked when we were going to do technicals because I was ready. Overall just don’t be weird and seem excited to interview (which you should be)
tell me about yourself/walk me through your resume
why IB
why our firm specifically
maybe some resume specific questions about your past experience
walk me through a DCF
what are the 3 valuation methods
walk me through the 3 financial statements
maybe some more technicals but usually basic questions
I usually ask simple questions to break the ice - walk me through your background, resume and tell me about your experience in each of your internships. First rounds are basically impossible to fuck up unless you come across as stiff or mellow.
