What’s Worth Chasing After IB?

Incoming IB analyst in NYC (BofA/JPM). Been thinking about what I want out of my future career.

Through college, the path felt clear: get into a good school, land a good banking job. Both felt like big steps. After banking, private equity seems dead and I’m wondering which exits really offer more interesting work where you have meaningful influence over a business.

I started a startup in college, and that was easily the most fulfilling work I’ve done. I don't know if I could respect myself staying in a cushy job for all my career instead of chasing something more ambitious.

Are there paths after IB that offer the combination of pay, ownership, and meaningful responsibility I’m looking for?
