When does banking become "monkey work"?

I've read multiple times on this site that banking is monkey work and the work is very repitive. I just started out as an analyst and wondering when the work will become repetitive and "boring." Right now, I find myself up at 2 am trying to figure out stuff like how to move some line in excel or how to pull something that my associate has asked me to. It's getting easier and easier day by day but wondering when I'll have fully mastered this process. I think I'd much rather be up at 2 am knowing exactly what I'm doing and how to do it vs being clueless and wasting time asking around.

You literally articulated and summed up my experience in words better than I could have. I wanted to ask this too. Call me crazy but I rather have grunt work past midnight  while listening to a podcast than stressing the fuck out in the middle of the day over how the hell I am supposed to do something. This might just be a first year WFH issue though 

 

Almost a VP and still waiting for that moment.

Once you learn how to build a model / quickly create the pages you're asked, your role transitions to designing the pages / thinking how best to articulate the desired messaging and you delegate the creation to someone else. (senior analyst / junior associate)

By the time you become comfortable creating content (i.e., designing slides, putting a presentation together) from verbal guidance / high level messaging, your role transitions to focus on positioning and presenting messaging to clients. (senior associate/VP)

By the time that becomes routine, your role transitions more to idea generation and selling clients on your ideas. (VP+)

And so on...

Short answer: if you're doing your job correctly and have proper support, never
