When networking at regional boutiques, BB, MM and EB, what position in the hierarchy would be the best to network with

I'm a current freshman at a non-target, but luckily I'm based in the greater New York area. I'm looking to network my way in to IB/PE, and I'm wondering who I should be contacting in each firm size. In the networking email, would it be rude to do my own valuation of a company in a recent deal and then ask questions on why their valuation may have been different?

Its good to ask about recent deals since it shows your interest in the firm/industry however I would refrain from coming up with your own valuations that only has the potential to go horribly.

I would instead advise you to ask questions that can’t easily be answered on a WSJ/Bloomberg article.

But really though, the last thing people would want to do is talk about the deal. Sure they might like the boast/gloat about it if it was was a megadeal but after answering 1-2 questions about it they would rather talk about something else.

Edit; also from my experience analyst to MD doesnt matter they’re all good people to be reaching out to since you never know who you’ll click with and go at bat for you.

My experience BB/EB ive had success with VPs
