Agree with this sentiment, make your life easy. I couldn't find a suitable place in CW so I lived with quick access to my bank on the jubilee Line  ( Aldgate, Whitechapel, Swiss Cottage etc) but this was before the Elizabeth line was up and running.

I would 100% try to find something along the Elizabeth line or the Jubilee line. Although Canary Wharf is not as dead on weekends as it was before, if you are not from London and you want to experience the city I would suggest living in the centre and commutting to work. I have done that this summer and do not regret it.

Thank you for your help guys!Do you think that 1200-1500pcm is a good budget or can I aim even lower?

My friend whose not from London lived in Bethnal Green for the summer. Cheap student housing there, I suppose. Anywhere on the DLR on the CW route works too. Whitechapel is popular with young bankers as well. The Elizabeth line being open makes things easier too, could choose somewhere along there. Don't blow your entire salary on rent being in Central or in CW, it's not worth it. Most people commute, plus I think it's really unhealthy to live in the same place as you work.

I wouldn't live in Canary Wharf itself. If you're in IBD, you're likely to qualify for a cab service after a certain time in the office anyway. As suggested, I'd look for places with direct access to the Jubilee/Elizabeth lines.

Avoid anything which requires a connection via the Central Line, it's a sauna in the summer.

In terms of pay, you can find summer student accommodation for something like 300-400pw; so 1200-1500pcm is quite good.

Would recommend somewhere near Tottenham Court Road - lots of younger people, proximity to Soho, Mayfair, Regents Park, etc and there’s the Elizabeth Line. Farringdon if you want a cheaper option - still a student friendly area though there’s not much in the nearby area apart from Exmouth Market.

I interned in CW this summer and this is a personal opinion which may be different to others. While yes, CW is pretty dead on weekends and it is healthy to live with your office out of your line of sight, your ultimate goal for the 10 weeks is to get a return offer. Everything you do over the summer should be geared towards that. If that means living walking distance work to get an extra hours sleep (assuming a 30 min commute to and back otherwise), then trust me, your body will be grateful.

You can live anywhere you want as a full-timer, but position yourself the best you can to get that offer. That's what I found worked for me anyway. I don't plan on living in CW EVER again, but I still am glad that I did as an intern to make my mornings easier.

How intense was the internship? What kind of hours, difficulty of work, etc? Obviously depends on the bank but were they really pushing interns that hard that you felt living in CW made such a difference?
