Where to live in Minneapolis?
Going to be starting ft at one of the mm banks in minneapolis next summer and was wondering what areas should I be looking at to find apartments in? Office is downtown and we get uber's home paid for so proximity to the office isn't the biggest deal I suppose. Not sure where other analysts live or if there are specific apt buildings that anyone recommends, but any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Grew up in the area. Uptown during the summer is great - it's close to downtown and proximity to the lakes gives you something to do when you're not crushing excel models until 2am.
North East is up and coming. Not as close to the lakes but there are some decent breweries and bars (if they haven't all closed for good). Depending on your budget there are some decent places in both areas in the $1,200/mo range if you're going to be living solo.
Right now I've heard downtown is terrible place to live. Nobody is commuting anymore so the only people there are hoodlums and construction workers during the days. Might be different next summer but Uptown and NE right now are your best bets from a commute, COL, proximity to DT and things to do perspective.
Are you going to have to show face a lot? If you live in any of the areas in this thread you'll be able to finagle a great deal. Minneapolis has become a complete shit show.
Downtown is either a ghost town or full of 'protesters', crime in the formerly nice and entertaining areas (uptown, north loop) has gone up significantly. Day time assaults, car jackings, shootings, looting, robberies, burglary etc. Criminals are more brazen with the 'defund the police' and spineless city leadership. A 60 year old neighbor was beat to shit midday, her purse snatched and car stolen when she was taking groceries to her apt. 911 took an hour to get there. Another neighbor carjacked at gunpoint. That's when I got the fuck out. I moved to a suburb in Dec. and am leaving the state next month. Burbs here are boring with nothing to do.
Don't mean to scare you but the city has changed drastically since this thread started. Maybe look into North East. My brother lives there and doesn't mind it. Easy bike ride to downtown office.
