Where to live in NYC as a new Associate?
I know Murray Hill is the typical analyst spot, but where do most first year post-MBA associates live (think 27-28 years old)? I personally won't have any debt at graduation and will be making the standard $150k + bonus. How much should I aim to spend on rent if I don't want roommates and any neighborhoods you'd recommend checking out? I've never lived in NYC before my summer was virtual so not super familiar with the city. Thanks all.
Born and raised in manhattan (childhood in East Village + SoHo, fam moved to Tribeca recently). My dad used to commute to his office in Midtown so it really just depends on how much you are willing to commute. He did not mind the 15-20 minute train rides, but he also grew up in NYC as well so that might have been a factor. Tribeca where my family lives now on the whole is a very nice and friendly place to live, particularly around the Battery Park/Chambers Street area. Close enough to all the action (by NYC standards) in the LES, EV, WV in the sense that it is very walkable. If you are willing to splurge, can never really go wrong with SoHo/West Village area. A more price sensitive neighborhood which I personally love is Hell's Kitchen, lot of things to do there and slightly older crowd with easy access to Midtown.
Can vouch for Hell’s Kitchen. Good location and was a pretty easy area to move into.
Should a new ASO live as close to the office as possible?
