Which Banks care most about target schools

The BB’s have been RAMPING up the diversity and non target hires lately. I know the EB’s typically hire from top tier targets — especially the likes of Centerview, PJT, and PWP — but sometimes they are weird about non target hiring too.

Any banks in particular that focus on top schools? I heard Qatalyst is a major one.

Q hires a lot from Cali, couple from IU. Not sure they care that much about classic targets. Analyst I spoke to said they care about sector knowledge above all else. Advantage is through networking and ur school having its own recruiting team that pulls for you. A wharton degree alone isn’t gonna get you all the way, but God forbid you pick up the phone once or twice lmao.

Not really. Like the rest of the banks, they’ll the occasional from random schools like Spelman or semi targets like Emory, but a majority of their class still comes from the ivies.

I go to Emory and Centerview takes 2-3 kids every year not randomly as you suggest so do Lazard and PWP. I highly doubt that they care too much about Ivy vs non-ivy or as much as you say

PWP apparently cares a ton about target vs non-target. Apparently it has its own list of targets- Brown University, Emory University, Georgetown University, Stanford University, University of California – Berkeley and , University of Pennsylvania

Half of their SA 2023 class are from nontargets lol so I don't think so. I've heard they took some heat a while back about on hiring too many Ivy League students

Moelis, Centerview, and PJT takes a lot of ivy league kids. Honestly all of the EBs focus only from targets/semi targets like IU Kelley or Emory. Centerview’s application was only live on HYPSW’s Handshakes — kids from other schools, Duke/Dartmouth/UChicago, got called from the website’s resume drop.

From the Evercore is going downhill post, it seems that HR made the decision to expand the diversity of schools to include state schools as well and focusing less on the T20s. Talked to a kid from my target’s investment club and we had no nondiversity heading to Evercore for 23SA. Maybe Evercore will only take SMU or SUNY kids next cycle? Diversity amiright?

Obviously west coast banks like Moelis LA/Lazard SF Tech will get a lot of USC/Berkeley kids. Also, peak frameworks made a video on how important going to a target is for finance if you wnna check that out
