Why am I getting no BB interview offers for SA 2027
For reference, here are my stats: west coast target school, asian female, haven't done much networking/don't have referrals, 3.75 GPA, few finance clubs but no top clubs or connections. I'm also a part of Girls Who Invest, which I thought would help but now I'm not sure. I have a friend that had superdays for a few BBs already and another who also hasn't received any interviews. so idk what's going on with this timeline. Is there still even a chance of hearing back for a first round at this point in the cycle? i know how much people emphasize networking but no one replies to my coffee chat requests so I just stopped sending them and tbh isn't being in gwi+dei+target school enough to at least hear back? and i did have a referral for jpmc but still don't have anything...
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and actionable advice for your situation:
Networking is Key: While being part of Girls Who Invest (GWI) and attending a target school are strong assets, networking remains a critical factor in securing interviews, especially for BBs. The lack of responses to your coffee chat requests can be discouraging, but persistence is crucial. Tailor your outreach emails to be more personal and specific—mention something unique about the person’s background or recent deals they’ve worked on. Also, consider reaching out to alumni from your school or GWI network, as they may be more inclined to help.
Timeline and Recruiting Cycle: The recruiting timeline for BBs has become increasingly accelerated in recent years. Many firms fill their SA spots early, sometimes even before the fall semester begins. However, there’s still a chance to hear back, as some firms may have rolling processes or reopen spots if candidates drop out. Keep an eye on updates from forums like WSO or directly on firm websites.
Referrals and DEI Programs: While being part of DEI initiatives like GWI is a significant advantage, it doesn’t guarantee interviews. Referrals can make a big difference, but they need to be strong and from individuals who can vouch for your skills and fit. If your JPMorgan referral wasn’t from someone directly involved in the recruiting process or who knows you well, it might not have carried as much weight.
Actionable Steps:
Mindset: It’s easy to feel disheartened, but remember that the process is highly competitive, and many factors are outside your control. Focus on what you can improve—networking, applications, and interview prep—and keep pushing forward.
There’s still time to turn things around, but it will require a renewed effort in networking and potentially broadening your target firms. Good luck!

i think we just have to wait in this case, jan is for people with diversity and strong referral.
skill issue, expecting anything without a networking is ridiculous
Hate this entitled attitude. It happens every year where kids think their school and background (unless you’re ultra nepo) will land them offers so they don’t do enough networking - which everyone needs to do with alumni to get interviews. Why would Wharton/Harvard ppl at banks give interviews to sophomores from their school who haven’t chatted with them when other sophomores have?
There’s only a certain amount of spots for each target school at each bank - so you have to fight for your spot through good networking.
You will probably get some interviews from places you didn’t network at (I got some at EBs and MMs 1-2 months after applications dropped) but you need to make sure you’re prepared by grinding technicals and behaviorals.
Would recommend focusing on MMs like Oppenheimer, Stifel etc those are your best chance right now.
I mean, I really did try to network; sent hundreds of emails. Do you think at this stage, I can continue to coffee chat for a chance, or is it too late?
Respectfully, you didn't network, that's why
Unfortunately, you are bottom of the DEI tier as an Asian woman. No networking only applies to black / latino DEI. In terms of the rank, your DEI status is the likes of Kelley/UIUC/GTech while black / latino girls are up their as the likes of Harvard/Wharton/Yale. 3.5 black girl from Moorhouse will have significantly better shot in getting in over you.
are you applying for NYC offices or west coast offices? west coast doesn't get as many looks from NYC and west coast offices are typically smaller in size so networking with them is more important because their intern classes are much smaller than NYC classes.
berkeley?
tough chiz, plenty of folks that have the same if not better stats/background than you. It really comes down to being lucky and finding that one single opportunity or person that will vouch heavy. I know plenty of students from my school that stacked up interviews left and right (i went to non-target btw) and still couldn't get a single offer. The littlest of things can be the biggest differentiator. You kids have to understand that. It ain't easy.
half of the stats you listed are the issues. hope this helps!
Reasons below:
1. You didn't network.
2. You are too concerned with your "stats" and not who you are as a person. At the end of the day somebody has to like your personality enough to give you a shot. Sorry.
