Why are there no technical discussions on WSO?!

I’ve followed WSO for about a year. In that time period I’ve not seen ONE (!) post addressing a problem statement that actually discusses the technicalities of a job in finance. Not one thread discussing sectors in growth, assumptions behind a model, an actual investment scenario.

I would estimate 90% of the content I’ve come across has to do with comp, prestige, how to fo into IB, how to get out of IB. And I seriously wonder why that is.

Is WSO simply not a thread for technical questions? Is no one in finance because they actually like finance? What the actual fuck is going on - no other similar forum I’ve seen (apart from maybe consulting) has been this one-sided.

I think the reason you see this in finance and consulting is because the work in both areas is highly confidential. No one is going to disclose any actual investment or work-related scenarios; assumptions in a model are not that complicated and dealt with internally. Even pitch decks are impossible to find online. You might see a handful floating around that have been released through lawsuits, but the work is generally very confidential hence little discussion on public forums.

Most finance questions are either pretty basic (which are occasionally asked on this site and gain little traction since they’re basic) or are bespoke and therefore confidential. There’s also a ton of sites out there answering these questions. However, this site provides invaluable information about comp and hiring processes, which helps employees be informed about their position in the market. Despite the high comp, we are all working people here who deserve transparency that this site provides

I can ask technical questions to anyone. WSO is the only place I can read prestige rankings
