why are there so many know-it-all mansplainers in this line of work

i really am at my wit's end. we got a group of new analysts in july and one of these kids (graduated honors from a semi-target school) constantly talks over people (especially women) in meetings-- he doesnt even say anything that constructive, hes just wants to feel like he knows whats going on. he also assumes people don't already know the obvious and feels the need to interrupt people to explain it (he began explaining a reporting rule of a company that some of us have been covering for YEARS).

this is a behavioral trend ive seen in soooo many people in this industry, everybody seems to be an anxious, obsessive-compulsive, over-achieving know-it-all. i guess its just something that comes along with working with (academically) high-achievers.

any tips on dealing with these types of people? i feel like soooo many ppl just need to calm the fuck down and take a xanax.

part of me just wants to live a slow life and be a bagger at a grocery store-- at least ill have cool coworkers doing something like that

First, unfortunately "mansplainers" on this forum/this industry will not engender you any sympathy from most people, I would advocate not using that word if you don't want to elicit eye-rolls from people even though I do find it to be a pretty funny term and I like how it enrages some idiots out there.

I would call them what they are, "try hards", or "brats", or "fucking annoying shitheads". I know exactly the type and unfortunately when you take an incessant need to please, a obsession with pedigree, painful levels of devotion to overachieving, and a slavish devoting to showing "value" this is the type of monster you will get.

People who would gladly watch a innocent family killed in front of them if it meant that they could chime up with a quip about how it would be more efficient to slit throats rather than shoot bullets (or some other illogical reasoning that adds no value). These people have nothing to offer, but they still want to add value. So they sit anxiously in the meeting waiting for the easiest softball they can find. They will loudly pipe up some bullshit about "the blockchain" or "the cloud" or some stupid shit over the women analyst / weak analyst / whatever target they deem appropriate for talking over. You can bet your ass their not talking over the MD, the problem is just that these types of mongoloids must assert themselves and show value, even if it means talking over whoever they deem as beneath them because they simply have no emotional intelligence and were likely raised in a cave.

not a manager so not my job to do that. just came here to vent that is all. not sure why youre being a smart ass; its very evident that mansplaining exists in fiancne and throughout society since women are seen as easy targets. if you cant see this reality youre either blinded by privilege (and are a mansplainer yourself) or stupid.

Once we're back in the office, late at night, leave a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People on his desk so he sees it when he arrives in the morning. This would obviously be hilarious, but also that book is genuinely extremely helpful, coming from someone who was an an anxious OCD know it all who practically got off on correcting people in high school. I read it the summer after my senior year and was already much better by the time I got to college.
