Why do we work?

Take a step back for a second. Why do we have to work? Solely for money?

We are on this world for such a limited time compared to how long we are dead... why not just enjoy life the most we can and live on 60k a year? Is prestige and ego that important? Is all the work stress and chasing happiness that might never come worth it? On your death bed, the corporate rat race will be all of our regrets. Why not truly enjoy our jobs in a great city and be happy?

Some people want a life better than 60k a year can provide? There's definitely a point of diminishing returns but it certainly doesn't start at 60k unless you live in Idaho my dude

To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.

I personally think one of the best ways to evaluate your life decisions in my opinion is when you are looking back on life when you are old, will you regret doing/not doing this?

For me, I know IB provides great optionality for my career, and should I decide its not for me, it’s easy to jump out and go into something more 9-5 finance related or another industry altogether. I really value that optionality.

But for me, if I didn’t do banking, when I look back when I’m old, I’ll always wonder “what if?”... I would regret not trying it. For me, that’s why I do it. But if you feel like you would regret doing this, I think that’s an equally valid reason to not do it. But really for me I can’t see any reason I’d regret grinding it out for my future when I am young.
