Why isn't Sunday protected also?

Im at UBS, and Sunday is a legit full blown workday now.  Emails coming in at 9am expecting responses.  Requests from MDs to set up dial-ins for internal calls that need to take place within 30 mins.  Comments sent out at 11am expected to be turned immediately (if they aren't its followed with an angry "Where are the pages!!" email)

It's like Seniors feel like since they treated us like humans on Saturday, they can be inhumane the next day.

There's not even an effort to treat it like a "lighter" workday.  I get that there may be some work that needs to be done over  the weekend, but its become absurd and offensive how I am treated on Sunday on timing.  I'm actually religious, and I've had to skip attending Church services with family on the vast majority of times this year (even on EASTER!).

It wasn't like this over my internship, thus why I accepted the offer.


I’m not sure why this got most helpful. It’s silly to do this as an analyst and get your name in the press. Think about the next firm who thinks about hiring you. Seeing such a lawsuit casts a negative look on you as to what you will sue the firm for next. It’s an unnecessary liability that many firms wouldn’t see the need of taking especially for an analyst/associate who is easily replaceable. 


This is the exact thought process that caused so much workplace abuse to keep going on. That Finance is a small world and if you don't act as wanted, you'll get kicked out of the "Finance World".

Honestly though, no one is getting fired for saying they're unable to work - I've never heard of anyone getting fired that wasn't absolutely dreadful at their job. Most firms will just keep you for the 2 year contract since it's easier from a HR standpoint. People just have to decide if the effort they're putting and sacrifices they're making or worth it for a good bonus.  


I'm not saying I should be pencils down from Friday night to Monday morning.  But there should be some expectation Sunday is a "light" day at a minimum.  Otherwise, just make it a normal workday and tell us accordingly.


Sunday is a full working day at our boutique too. Not a light day - full day. It is insane and then HR and clients on Monday morning - "Hope you all had a nice weekend!"


I feel your pain. For some improvement, I would suggest speaking with your seniors, let them know you will plan to attend Church every Sunday and will work around that. That should buy you some time away from work and also give some spirituality boost, which is lacking in this job. I did that my first day on the job and in 7 years, I've never missed a Sunday. Now having recently resigned (yeaaay), I'm so glad I did that. Banking took nearly all my waking hours, but wasn't going to take a few a week for something that will last far beyond a career.

Also so glad I resigned. 


Are you actually staffed on weekends? Like your staffer reaches out to you for new assignments on Saturday ? It would be extremely bad planning from seniors in this case, and pretty disrespectful ....

Great that you don’t work on Sundays, but in my case more the opposite, like lighter Sat, and then on Sunday we realize were only through half the presentation and need to do some heavy lifting before Monday morning ...


I would say it is due to urgent work left unattended during the week in busy months, instead of receiving requests during the weekend. 

For me as a Christian it is important to be away from work during a Sunday. We have an MD who is supportive of this and knows how to respect boundaries (this is always a lottery in all jobs anyways). 

Some colleagues do voluntarily work during Sundays in busy periods, but definitely in my case I prefer to be working in an urgent assignment during a Saturday (leaving the Sunday out for myself) and everything is OK.
