Will Georgetown put me in a disadvatge for ib recruiting compared to uchicago

I am seriously considering Georgetown(close to home , prestigious, target school , free) however I also got into uchicago some of the biggest draw backs I see is the distance from home and UChicago cost me 2k a year

current student at uchicago here: no. every diversity program i've been to there's always been a couple gtown people there + i've seen plenty of people at gtown end up with offers at firms like BX, GS etc. uchicago is not worth the extra $2k a year for a marginal difference in recruiting. Go to the school you vibe with the most, you won't go wrong!

No, they send a ton of ppl to IBD every year consistently, across basically every worthwhile firm. I don't think there would be any material difference in recruiting. Neither of them are an IU Kelley (due to no investment banking workshop), but it is what it is.

Disclaimer: GT undergrad and had every opportunity in the world in front of me. Recruiting was very solid.

Georgetown hands down. Same recruiting opportunities as UChicago but way better social scene.

Exists are not the same, idk who here is telling you otherwise except a bunch of Georgetown students. But look at where UC places across the street - filling top firms, can’t say as much the same as gtown. Additionally, I’ve found that the UC kids are usually smarter as the school is harder and more rigorous, and also take into account it has a smaller acceptance rate and is higher ranked in almost every regard. Not to mention any cross over with booth carries clout in the industries... don’t even know the gtown bschool name.

Agreed. Uchicago places in top 5 schools in the us every year, georgetown is more like top 20. Not saying that’s not good (it’s an incredible achievement to get into either school), but when it comes down to quality of alumni and ranking, uchicago is hands down the “better” school. Don’t be stupid and choose your school based off of job - that can change. Also, uchicago has good placement in both chicago and NY offices, and as someone mentioned Booth is a top bschool so going to undergrad there would hopefully help with admission if you were interested.

Georgetown has far better recruiting in numbers. 5-10 kids/year for most BBs in NYC. Chicago may be a better school academically and have better placement at a few places, but Georgetown is definitely more of a target. Finance is not about being a genius, let’s be honest here. No one cares about school rigor. Many of the Ivy League schools are known for grade inflation and easy majors. Not a student at either, but this is what I’ve seen.

Uchicago is just generally a smaller school, but I don’t think the kid should be picking schools because of IB exists. Maybe in 3 years IB will be full of idiots and not the “in” place to work. Also, as mentioned above both schools have good placement, uchicago is better ranked overall but it really depends on who you vibe with and what you’re looking for.

Kid... just look at ranking and general fit and go. As people have mentioned, it’s not worth it to go to college specifically trying to get one job. Things and industries change. If I could choose, I would go to uchicago because of ranking, Georgetown because it seems like a litty school. You can’t really go wrong at either, but if you are trying to go to school to get a good job, you’re just more likely to get looks if you go to a more prestigious and selective school which would be chicago.
