Accept offer vs. Seek Interviews
Hey everyone, this is my first time posting on this website, but I've seen some great advice posted here.
I'm a senior who has been trying to decide between an offer that's about to explode or seek other job opportunities. I have an offer from one of the Big Four accounting firms that's going to expire within a week, and interviews for finance firms do not start for another two weeks. My options are the following:
- Accept offer
- Decline offer (or let it expire, the same thing)
- Accept offer, but keep looking for jobs (it's at-will employment). If an offer for a bank turns up, then I'll go there.
I realize that everyone will probably need a little more detail on the matter, so I will say that my overall GPA is 3.37 and my finance GPA is a 3.59. I am also working at Smith Barney part-time in, essentially, equity research (there's no real job title)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I think #2 is a generally bad idea, everything considered.
I think that I would go with #3 if I were presented with this situation, even though it has the potential to cause some awkward/unpleasant situations.
I definitely think your role at Big-4 may carry some weight on the decision though; audit vs transaction services are on significantly different levels for an IB hopeful.
Interested to hear other peoples comments.
Oh yes, forgot to mention, it's for audit (they call it assurance, but we all know what it actually means)
Go with #3.
Have the same problem, but offer is with BB S&T....
Does the answer change? Interviewing with GS now...
That one is a lot harder to answer. Depends on the bank that the offer is with, also the group. I would not reneg at the drop of a hat, but if GS gives you an offer in an area that you want your career to be in (say distressed debt over FX options) then you have to do what is best for you. Make sure you call the other BB (your group not just HR) and explain to them the situation. Keep details light, don't say which bank (i'm not even sure I would mention the product).
It was a symbol in a book I read back in middle school, though I don't remember which one.
oh, I was just checking to see if you were in the same frat as I was
anyway good luck with the offers
