Acceptable time to follow up post-interview
I was recently interviewed for a full-time position at EVR, and was told I'd hear back in a couple of weeks as they have quite a few people to interview - we're coming up to 2 weeks. Is now a good time to follow up or should I hold back?
To be honest I wouldn't follow up for a while (a month if you want a timeline).
Asking for a follow up isn't going to position you any better for the role, as you probably guess. It will just add another thing to someone's "to do" list, which isn't helpful. The only reason you want to do this is because you want the satisfaction of an update (which is totally human and understandable, but it doesn't help you with EVR).
Most likely they're still interviewing, and your profile is in the "maybe" pile (or simply hasn't been discussed yet until all candidates are interviewed). If you were a straight "no", you'd have been told.
I say a month because you're absolutely entitled to feedback, and if they really haven't come back to you by then to me that seems like a reasonable timeframe to reach out, acknowledge they've likey moved ahead with another candidate, and politely ask for feedback.
That’s very reasonable — thank you very much!
