Advice for new graduate hoping to get into AM?

I am recent graduate from Canada with an Honours BCom degree (major in Finance) and am hoping to get into AM.

In terms of GPA, I would say it is is average (about 3.5/4.0). I have about a year of actual internship experience, however it was a marketing role during my first year of university. I have tried highlight the transferable skills from the internship (mostly communication with clients and researching) but of course it doesn't matter to someone who has more relevant internship experience. In lieu of this, I tried to highlight all the relevant projects in my classes and my extracurricular activities in out schools investment club (i.e. Equity Research Reports, Stock Pitches, Trading Reports, Financial Modelling Projects, etc.) based off the job descriptions.

My end goal is to eventually become a portfolio manager I have been applying to Investment Analyst, Equity Analyst and even some SS ER roles.

I am really hoping for any advice or insight. Should I look at other types of entry level roles? Are there any entry level roles that could help make a lateral move into AM?

Feel free to leave any advice in the comments or DM, anything will be really appreciated!

Also currently studying for the CFA and set to write in Feb, however I feel like putting "CFA Level 1 Candidate" on the resume is stupid.
