Advice needed with career path
Hello, Long time lurker, first time poster.
I work in operations at a large company while I earn my MSF degree (think BU, UI Kelley, or NEU, and I am 30% done with the program with a 3.5 GPA, I have a completely unrelated undergrad.
I've created my own trading system, and I trade daily, with moderate success. I desperately want to make the move into AM, but I would also consider IM or PWM of course. I am trying to change my life in the biggest way possible, and I know that I am very late in the game (28 years old). Unfortunately, I have no relevant work experience, although I will be attempting to bridge this gap with part time, unpaid or low pay finance work in my free time. I'm not asking for any sugar coating or anything like that, but I would really appreciate any advice to help make the transition.
My plan is:
Finish my MSF, and fully utilize my school's career services for internships.
Network my ass off.
Transition from Operations to Corporate Finance at my company.
Shift my efforts to the CFA exams.
Sacrifice all my free time for the next 5 years.
Earn my CFA.
Complete my career change and gain employment in one of the above mentioned fields.
My question is: Does this sound even remotely feasible, or am I crazy? Are there any things I can do to help increase my chances?
Thanks in advance.
