Advice on Leaving Job to Focus on Recruiting

Hi everyone,

I just wanted some insight on what I’m contemplating right now in terms of recruiting.

I work in IB, and am looking to make a lateral move, which is quite tough given that I’m in the office all the time and working weekends until past midnight. I have 0 time to prep for my interviews, and am running in fumes. In addition to this, my firm is ultra toxic, I’ve had racist remarks thrown my way, my seniors seniors give me constant anxiety, and am severely underpaid compared to other banks. My firm provided an offer to return as a 2nd year analyst starting in 2 weeks, but am thinking of declining it and focusing on recruiting. Is this worth it, and how do you explain the gap in your resume to other banks?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Do the least you can without being fired. I am in a similar situation, undertaking one internship while being extremely underpaid (just above living wage). Despite this, I was being told to work long hours. I ignored that and focused heavily on recruiting for summer internships, working from home as much as possible, and eventually got an offer.
