Aetna Interview
I am in college, and I had an interview for Aetnafor a financial advisory position at the HQ in Hartford. The recuiter came to my school and we talked about our values for about 30 minutes and we clicked pretty well. The college recruiter told me that he is going to go ahead and recommend me for a 2nd round phone interview with an upper level exec around Thanksgiving.
What can I expect for 2nd round interviews?
We didn't talk about my past job experience and we barely talked about my strengths and weaknesses... He said he just wanted to "get to know what I was".
anybody ever had an intern at aetna? any help will be appreciated
uconn is fail. i didnt know aetna does financial advisors?
signed, uconn alum
Second that-Aetna is a health insurance company primarily and any job you would want would be within their Finance or maybe Product management departments. Interviews with insurance companies are far less rigorous than the interviews with Wall Street firms and my guess is it will be primarily behavioral. If you have anymore information on who you are talking to or what the actual job opportunity is, there is a slight chance you would see more helpful responses.
good luck
I did an internship at Aetna a while ago.
They're big on values and corporate culture, or at last they were before the world fell apart in the past 2-3 years.
Look on they're website and find this value wheel thing that basically says the customer is at the heart of everything they do and client's needs come first, etc, etc.
They're actually pretty proud of this thing and we had a large assembly regarding it as interns.
Ask specifically how their value system plays into Fin Advisory or whatever department you're talking about.
Also, and this info might a out of date, Aetna partnered with the Magic Johnson Foundation to help minorities get health care. They were pretty proud of that as well so look into their community service stuff.
Don't beat a dead horse but mentioning this stuff quickly shows you did some research on the organization. In fact, every executive I met with as an intern liked to talk about Aetna's superior culture.
Good Luck
Hey Victor, yeah I read about their values: excellence, quality. employee engagement, and integrity. And I mentioned that I do a lot of community service and we just talked about that for a while.
He said he would like to go ahead and put my name in for 2nd round...
The job description doesn't say much except that it is financial services... Im just worried about what they might ask. Will they ask me about the stock market and stuff because I'm clueless about that kind of stuff.
what are the conditions? is it full-time? internship? is it paid?
afaik, financial advisor pos are typicall commission-based only, but thats only the case with ibanks within the PWM dept. Aetna might be different
it is for a summer internship
I wouldn't worry too much about the interview, when I was there, most of the other interns were kind of clueless. That fact that you're posting here to get pointers is a good sign.
When I was there, I impressed my boss with my financial modeling skills because that's what they needed for this particular position. But most of the other interns were doing a lot of grunt work and intern projects like reading about Turtle Trading and Jack Bogle (not that those are bad subjects to be learning about). Think of the internship as a summer ling interview and try to relax and enjoy it. I knew 3 semi-ditzy characters were there for their second summer when I was an intern, even though they were a little flaky on hard skills.
One other tip is to always ask for more work if you find yourself with a lot of downtime, they like that. Also, the owrk you do may be boring but make sure it is 100% error free, same as anywhere else. This other dude in my department kept making basic mistakes and disappointed all 5 of our bosses (also he was an obvious brown noser)
And once again, good luck!

YOOOOOOOO MODERATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's now a hot link in my post in the term "F1nanc1al M0delling" directing users to some site that just tried to give me a TROJAN. I'd look into that. My McAffee caught it but others might not.

what kind of questions can I expect to hear during the second round phone interview with an upper level manager?
The first interview was just questions about my values..
Do they ask me to list the items in an income statement? What kind of questions can I expect? Please let me know. I really need this!
