Alumni are incredibly unhelpful. Thoughts?

I have been sending emails to alum at my school who work at various places ranging from start up hedge funds to an MD at a BB. I have yet to receive a response from any of them. I understand that this may be what happens, but needless to say I am a little disappointed. I'm going to send a few more emails before I call it quits on emailing alumni (or at least scaling back). However, I think calling it quits with cold networking, especially at a non-target institution, would be a terrible mistake. Does anyone have any experiences with "cold emailing" total strangers who are not alum and if so, how did it go?, what did you say? etc. I'll be trying to attend a few informational meetings this fall before submitting resumes and applications for a number of different firms.

If it matters, I'm a sophomore trying to land a role at any BB for this summer particularly in PWM/PB in hopes of leveraging it for a lateral move to S&T for the summer of my senior year. Hopefully from there I can land a FT position. Sorry if this sounds too planned out, but I know I want to be a trader and for the time being I know the best I can do is network my way closer to my goals.

Thanks in advance.

you have to keep going, you can't give up that easily. Try not to sound like an annoying college kid, keep your e-mails short and too the point, and don't ask for a job in your e-mail, besides that cast a wide net.

I have been short and to the point, I never ask for a job (or offer a resume), but I haven't been casting a wide net so I'll keep that in mind. Other than that, I'll just grow a pair and keep on going.
