Am I about to be hired under this kind of circumstances?

Hi Guys,

I am interviewing an anlyst position. The process was like this:
Online application --> HR Telephone Pre-talk --> Interviewed with divisional manager --> superday (met two team members face to face, and video conference with HK team)

At the end of the superday, the manager told me that they were gonna make a decision two weeks later (this week). Yet on lat Thursday, the HR told me that they would like me to do some psych-test online and meet with their divisional head. So I did the psych tests and met with the divisional head. The head said, "I just wanna meet you and get to know you. I will leave it to the team and manager to make the decision, but I will certainly talk the team about what I thought". And after all these, I received an email from HR that there's gonna be a delay and they hope to to make a decision by the end of next week.

I've really put a lot of effort in this and I'm a bit worried. What do you think about my situation? Do you think I'm close to an offer or not ? Thanks.

Sorry this may sound harsh, but as much as you may want to just hear some thoughts, nobody here can give you correct advice and tell you "you're close/not close to an offer" unless he works in the respective team at the respective firm or in HR at that firm.

It might probably help to stay in touch with all the people you talked to (assuming you have their business cards i.e. contact details), especially with the team members you met at the superday. If you connect well with them they might give you some information on the process. I would try not to be too annoying though.

Otherwise, you'll just have to wait and see. Good luck in any case!

When you're interviewing for a position and they give you a timeline and then don't stick to it, these are the possibilities.

1. the process is legitimately delayed, they haven't interviewed enough candidates to feel good about extending an offer to one... interviewing, after all, isn't the #1 priority when there's business to be won/done

2. they've extended an offer to someone and they're waiting to hear back on his/her decision to accept or not; obviously they don't want to extend someone an offer and tell the rest of the candidates the process is complete and they the candidate rehects their offer and they need to go back to their runner-up candidate with their tail between their legs

3. for whatever reason theirs an organizational / logistical delay. Maybe their approval for an additional head count was rejected, maybe its a small group and someone in the group left the firm and they want to hire the mid-level or senior persion first so that he/she can have a choice in hiring the new member(s) of their team

There's a bunch of possibilities and like the guy above said, no one can tell you how close or far you are.

Just hang around the hoop and stay on their radar ever 2 or 3 weeks. I wouldn't bug or pressure them unless you've got a competing offer in hand and either would much rather work at the slow-poke firm or want to pick from a couple of offers to see which is the best one.
