Am I about to get fired & if so what do I do from here?

Work at a great firm, one of the best in the industry but l've had some issues. Tardiness and the like. Recently, about a week and a half ago, I was told that I would be placed on involuntary PTO for a week, reasons unclear. I was told someone in my cohort reported me for some comment or comments I made, without description, outside of work. I was also told, in the same conversation, that my bringing a Swiss Army knife to work was unacceptable (knife my dad gave me that l often attached to my hip via a carribeaner).

Today I started my workday and received a call from my manager informing me that I would still be on leave this week. Sounds to me like I'm on the way out at this firm, which is a disappointment. Where do I go from here?

Start applying now and networking, that’s about all you can do. Be able to spin the story why you are getting fired.

Also take a step back and reevaluate your choices and professionalism. Silly to bring any sort of knife, no matter how sentimental, to work. Also don’t make stupid comments outside or inside the workplace to your coworkers.

Yeah, echo that. And I am skeptical it was as small issues as you are describing. They wouldn't just take action against you if it was. You likely did more, or something that was enough for you to get in trouble. And not sure about the tardiness, I mean I do that too but never gotten in trouble as long as I get work done and dont show up at 3pm

It's just the lack of awareness / EQ for putting the knife on your hip for everyone to see. We work in an industry where (a) you don't need Swiss army knives for any reason, (b) people in finance are generally city folk and generally not gun / knife-toting cowboys, i.e., they will be less comfortable with seeing what they think is a weapon of any kind, even if it is 2 inches, and (c) it's not the norm to have a knife on your hip as you walk around the office. MDs don't do it, VPs don't do it, and interns don't do it.

Sure it's probably a small piece of the overall HR complaint but still.... just put it in your bag/pocket??
