Am I cooked?

I recently had a super day at an investment bank for an internship starting next summer. It was on Thursday, and a person got an offer on Friday. Another person got an offer on Tuesday of this week. I have yet to hear from anyone, so I emailed HR to express my gratitude and interest. They replied with “we will circle back very soon with an update.” I am convinced that I am getting a rejection, but wanted to see other opinions. You live and you learn.

Based on previous WSO threads, it's not uncommon to feel anxious about the waiting period after a super day. Here are a few points to consider:

  1. Timing of Offers: Offers can be extended at different times based on various factors, including internal processes and the availability of decision-makers. The fact that others have received offers doesn't necessarily mean you are out of the running.

  2. HR Response: The response from HR indicating they will "circle back very soon with an update" is neutral. It doesn't confirm a rejection or an offer. It suggests that they are still in the process of making decisions or finalizing details.

  3. Follow-Up: You've done the right thing by emailing HR to express your gratitude and continued interest. This shows professionalism and enthusiasm for the role.

  4. Stay Positive: It's important to stay positive and patient. The waiting period can be stressful, but it doesn't always indicate a negative outcome.

  5. Next Steps: While waiting, continue to explore other opportunities and prepare for potential next steps, whether it's another interview or considering alternative roles.

Remember, the recruitment process can be unpredictable, and patience is key. Good luck!
