Am I Crazy for wanting to go into Politics?

Yes, the current events—politically, around the world are absolutely everywhere. But for those of you who have made the switch, or know of some who has, what are your thoughts? I'm still in UG but have tailored everything outright to target a career in finance (not strictly IB, but the general finance/capital markets space). I've always been passionate about public speaking, and bringing ideas/projects to life. Maybe I'm misguided on what this path truly entails, but as of the past year, I've definitely given a career into politics a lot more attention.

Within politics, I was thinking working in relation nationally - i.e relevant figures regarding the President/PM. (I am actually being serious about this). Not exactly passionate about the municipal/regional level, but I understand that is where many politicians start.

Would it be worth sticking to IB and transitioning into politics given the technical expertise I can gain in such few time. In all honesty, it does not look like half of career politicians are even able to meet the technical aptitude of an IB interview (maybe not even the job itself when pushing text boxes around for the VPs/ASOs).

It seems Finance > Government is a better transition than the other way around. Government is so slow and bureaucratic where progression can be uncertain. Money is also a big differentiator. Sure you can go join a large financial services company in a senior role after a successful stint in Government, but you are already in your 40s / 50s. Not trying to deter you (I am very interested in similar positions), but want you to think strategically.

Bro politicians go to law school. IB interviews aren't that technical. Not as technical as a quant interview.
