another interview question
Hi all. Long time reader... I recently had an interview for a compliance position with a large fund. I think the interview went well. The interviewer was aware that I'll be sitting for the NY bar on July 27th & 28th. At the end of the interview, and unprompted, he said that if things work out I could start after the bar. The interviewer also mentioned that I was the first candidate to come in and that they weren't sure how long the interviewing process would take. Not sure what to make of these statements.
I sent a thank you email the day after the interview. At what point would it be appropriate for me to follow up with the interviewer (hr is not involved). 2 weeks from the interview? Appreciate any input.
I'm surprised that anyone would consider a newly-minted law school graduate for a compliance position. I was under the impression that compliance jobs typically go to lawyers who have been working a few years at a law firm (preferably, a large, prestigious one).
I'm surprised you actually have to have a law degree to be in compliance. Ours was a cross between a nervous actuary and a Wal Mart security guard.
I think 10-14 days, is an appropriate amount of time before following up, barring specific instructions from the employer.
