Applying to summer internships as a final year student
In September I will be starting my final year of my bachelors degree but I have plans to apply for a Masters degree in Finance. Applications for Master's programs don't open up until mid to late September and probably it won't be until late December/ early January that I will get an offer (hopefully I get one).
My question is will I be auto-rejected because I am not a penultimate year student? Is it better to apply after I get an offer for an Msc?
Dude cmon, like seriously… You are applying for highly competitive roles and you can’t just simply use the search bar to get an answer to something that has been answered on here ad nauseam.
I have googled it multiple times, but I get various results. I guess I am looking for people to share similar experiences.
Not to mention each year the recruiting cycle starts earlier and earlier so answers I find on google from 2014 don't really apply to my situation.
Yeah, I also tried searching on wso for it. The info given on this wso is very hard to discern, I know some bbs and ebs allow final years to apply for SA. My problem is that even though some firms might publicly state that they don't accept, you can bypass this by networking, claiming on your cover letter that your a masters student or if your lucky, hr policy dosent apply to some roles. From what I read on wso and tsr, someone might claim final year students are allowed, someone might claim final students are not allowed, someone might claim that their analyst class was full of 3rd year and he was the only 2nd year(info was 5 years ago) . It's just a clutter of information, I can't really make use of it.
I just can't understand the whole process, I also don't understand how networking, master student, hr policy might apply. Info given on wso and tsr is based SPECIFIC to a person who has done networking, relavent internships and strong ECs. Wso is self selecting bias, candidates here are above average.Basically, information given on wso might not apply to normal candidates who do not have the aforementioned characteristics mentioned above.
However reading from other ppl experience, I know networking with vp, md as well as being a aforementioned strong candidate factors would definitely bypass original recruiting process.Theres just too much factors to take in and not a specific 'narrative' that could apply to ALL STUDENTS. Unless I'm just fking stupid, call me out.
Thanks for the monkey shit. I will be respectful anyways. All I have to say is what does it matter? like seriously let’s say a bank has a policy where you can only apply if you are a 2nd year UG student. If you apply for it as a final year student, what do you lose as without previous SA experience you have no shot at FT recruiting anyways, so I ask again, what do you lose by applying for SA roles regardless of what it says on websites. Seriously, use your intuition, your entering a field of highly competitive roles and if you can’t already use your brain to navigate stuff as meaningless as this then you really have no shot in recruiting. And this is me being nice by the way :)
Most organisations filter the applications they receive based on some criteria, for example point72 the only organisation that has open applications (that I am aware of) auto-rejected me because I was technically not a penultimate year student, even though I made it very clear in the motivational questions that I plan on doing a masters.
The purpose of my post was some ask for guidance on avoiding getting auto rejected and at least having a fighting chance. I really don't get why you found this hill to die on, if you think this is a stupid question, either help out, or downvote and move on. There is no need to throw insults like "can't use your brain" covered by a thin vail of "niceness".
