Are they into me???

Hi monkeys, I’m a recovering GP who currently sits in an allocator seat. I lead all real estate investments, predominantly funding LP equity, but also Co-GP and OpCo investments.

A partner GP of mine introduced me to another GP, indicating that they were longtime friends and that “we should meet.” No other context was offered. We had a brief intro call, and I shared with him our program about six months ago.

Flash forward to today, he’s in town and we meet up for a coffee. My initial thought is he’s looking for an update on our 2024 allocations and if we think there will be an opportunity to work together in the future. While there was some of that, he kept emphasizing to me, maybe three times over the course of an hour, how he was looking for a market leader for the market that I live in. He made numerous comments about my background, and how he knows I worked at XYZ place, and an interview…

I don’t wanna convince myself that this is something that it’s not and look like an ass, (which I’m sure I already do), but if there was interest, I would be interested in having a conversation. Curious if anybody has had a similar situation and how you have approached.

Thanks!
