There is more pay and more volatility in consulting. You used to be able to be on the beach for 3+ months without any problems but that is no longer the case. I think you are much more replaceable as a consultant and most places contract you at-will now which means you can get canned at the drop of a hat.

 

Well I work in audit.

First year out of college I made $29,586 before tax.

Second year I jumped to the dizzying heights of $33,027.

This is in a very expensive major european city....if consultants are earning less than us I pity the fvckers.

Work is also a lot more interesting in consulting...I would slice my right nut off to be doing consulting right now instead of audit...I wouldnt even compare the two tbh.

Only benefits to audit are job security (ZZZZzzzzz) and the exam support (you get a nice few months off for your professional exams which helps a lot) but its really not a road I would recommend to anybody.
