Back-Ups if I don't break into IB
I'm an incoming senior at top target in Canada (Qcomm/Ivey) working in a small PE shop this summer. I'm looking to break into banking full-time but obviously as we all know it's extremely difficult without a summer analyst position, especially in this job market. So I'm wondering what are the top back-up jobs/industries that I should be gunning for? I'm grinding technicals for banking but worried if I don't get anything else I will be in a bad position. I'm looking for jobs that pay close to IB that are not PE, HF, or VC cause obviously if you can't break into IB its tough breaking into those. I know S&T, and corp banking, but is there anything that I'm missing? For a baseline, looking for 90k - 100k+ total comp out of uni. Thanks in advance!
Have you thought about delaying grab by a semester to do an off-cycle IB internship? Most banks in Toronto take off-cycle interns
Pensions/investments, asset management, Big 4 transaction advisory. Like the comment above said, delaying grad or off cycles (don't necessarily have to delay grad for this) are good options as well.
