Background check: They actually called the references
Had some interviews for a prop shop, after final onsite round, some part of the background check was to give references.
They actually called them and didn't just asked if I worked there, but also asked (dumb) questions such as: "Biggest weakness" "Would you recommend him to your boss"
Not a good sign if they still want to know more about me? Not covincing enough?
These backgrounds check stress me out more than the actual interviews 😂

This isn’t illegal to call the reference. If the reference said you were a shitty employee and you end up not getting the job, you may be able to sue the reference for slander. Most large companies avoid this all together by only providing the most basic information.
I think references and confirming work history are two different things. If it's a reference, they will ask them about you such as weakness and how you are because these are the people you put down to speak for your character and what not. If they are calling for work history, then it's exactly what the above says. Just have to make sure you aren't confusing the two
Apologies, this is a good call out. I incorrectly interpreted OPs post as a prospective employer calling past employers after he provided his work history. But yes, you are 100% correct.
yes it is a reference
