Being reconsidered for a role

Has anyone ever had any luck re-applying for a role that they were initially turned down for? I.e. I was turned down for a role last year but I saw the exact role re-posted recently, and I think my added experience in the past year has made me a much better fit for the role. Any point in reaching out to the same people that interviewed me and rejected me last year? Not really sure how to approach this. Any help would be appreciated

When I was doing FT recruiting, I reached back out to many of my contacts from SA recruiting. I got a good amount of phone screens and / or superdays this way. The main thing to emphasize would be how you are a better fit for the role now or how you have grown for the better since the last time you interviewed with them.

Your situation seems to be post-undergrad but I still think it's generally applicable. Also, what's the worst that could happen? If they ignore you or say no, then you move on.

I was able to do this post-undergrad for FT IB.

It's quite random as I think some firms keep track of candidates they interview while others do not. Combination of luck and hustle.

Not apples to apples but - I was once a hotel doorman trying to get a role in finance. I was referred to a position at a large wealth management firm. I didn't get the role, but hit it off well with the Director I was interviewing with. I'd reach out to him every few months when I saw other opportunities post in the group - he referred me to every single one. Eventually, one of those positions, happened to be on his team and he hired me on the spot. It took 9 months, but was the stepping stone I needed.
