Best Courses/Certificates to give me an edge in IB recruiting

Just as the title says, I am looking for the best courses/certificates that give me an edge in recruiting. Have heard of the WSO courses and WSP as well but I wanted to hear about a few others and possibly which one is the best out of all of them in terms of knowledge gained and more importantly how they are perceived by the banks. I know this isn't a necessity but would still appreciate any insight.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there are several courses and certifications that can give you an edge in Investment Banking (IB) recruiting.

  1. WSO Courses: These are highly respected and cover a wide range of topics, including Networking Guide, Investment Banking Prep, Private Equity interviews, Behavioral Techniques, and more. They are designed to provide practical knowledge and skills that are directly applicable in the field.

  2. WSO Elite Modeling Package: This is a comprehensive package that includes PE Interview Course, IB Interview Course, and all WSO Courses. It's designed to help you master financial modeling and valuation techniques that are crucial in IB.

  3. Investment Banking Professional (IBP) Credential: This is a new initiative that aims to identify potential employees who can quickly get up the learning curve, work efficiently with few errors, pay extreme attention to detail, learn from mistakes and not repeat them, and know what they're talking about.

  4. Wall Street Prep (WSP): This is another well-known provider of financial training programs. They offer a range of courses, including financial modeling, investment banking, private equity, and more.

  5. Breaking into Wall Street (BIWS): This is a popular online course that provides practical, hands-on training in financial modeling and investment banking skills.

  6. Training the Street: This is a leading provider of training for financial institutions and public and private schools.

In terms of perception by the banks, all these courses and certifications are well-regarded. However, the best one for you would depend on your specific needs and career goals. It's also important to note that while these courses can give you an edge, they are not a substitute for real-world experience and networking.

At the summer analyst level, there are no courses you need to take that will make a meaningful difference. If you master BIWS and have done a couple DCF/LBO models personally, you’re set there.

If you want to differentiate, read books about deals (Barbarians, Caesar’s Palace, etc.). If you consciously check to understand everything you come across as you’re reading, I guarantee that will make a significant difference.
