Best way to frame non-finance internship?
Hey everyone.
For some background, I just finished up my junior year at a non-target flagship state school. My cumulative GPA is a 3.48 at the moment. I am working on raising it.
I recently started a summer internship that is not finance-centric, but regardless, I have been entrusted with some considerable responsibilities for an intern. As I understand it, the skills that I am using and improving upon (Excel, Python, R) are quite useful in the world of finance.
I am using Excel, Salesforce, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 to correct and update my company’s account data base, leads, and contacts. Basically, my duty is to facilitate an overhaul of our CRM and ERP systems.
Additionally, I am working with the sales team to get accurate sales data. I will be working with another intern to create a data model to identify regional, product-specific, and sector-based sales trends. This project will begin later in the summer. My company has an annual revenue of around $200m/year.
As I prepare for career fairs and hiring season in the fall and spring, how can I frame this in order to land a good finance job upon graduation? I would love to work in IB, but a PE or HF job would be great as well. Corporate finance could also work.
I feel that I am a bit behind the 8-ball so to speak, and I would appreciate any advice that y’all would have for me.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend

Bump. If there is another person on here who is in a similar spot presently or someone with some industry experience who could chime in, I would really appreciate the advice.

I am by no means an expert, but I find this interesting because we're both in very similar situations. My internship is not really related to what I want to do but close enough. I plan on just framing it on my resume as tailored to finance as I can through the bullet points, even if it takes some exaggeration. Other than that, it's still great to have under your belt either way.
