Big 4 Monkey Trying to Break into Finance
I've been working in Internal Audit at a Big 4 for a year now and I am eager to explore opportunities in finance (IB, M&A, anything). Wanted to know what you guys thought as to the best route to take, the types of jobs I should apply to etc.
Also, I've recently been asked by a head hunter to interview for an accounting job at a fund, the head hunter told me I would be able to transfer into a front office job after proving myself (quite possibly BS). Would this give me a better shot of breaking into finance or would staying at a Big 4 be more beneficial?
Thanks a lot for any advice!
Your name is so money.
And don't take the BO job. I would network hard and have a good answer to why banking and you should be able to atleast interview during FT recruiting. GL
Fellow Big 4 in the same situation as you.
I think you need to prove that you are taking steps to show that you are serious about entering the finance world. It could be through something like getting your level 1 CFA for example. Alternatively an MBA in finance could also be worthwhile. Some concrete evidence that you are not only ambitious to be involved in finance, but also that you have the competency to be a part of the finance world.
Met a strangely large number of people in your position lately. Personally see it as an uphill battle, the guys I know that have made the jump successfully got their CA with some other selling feature (ie. experience in the field they ended up jumping to). I would focus on getting those letters and try to meet some people in the industry.
