Based on the most helpful WSO content, for junior summer internship recruiting, it's crucial to have a solid understanding of the basic technical questions. These are the questions that you're most likely to encounter and are expected to know.

However, it wouldn't hurt to familiarize yourself with the advanced questions as well. While they might not be as commonly asked, knowing them could give you an edge over other candidates. It shows that you've gone the extra mile in your preparation and have a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Remember, the goal is not just to answer the questions correctly, but to demonstrate your interest and commitment to the field. So, go ahead and tackle those advanced questions if you can! It's all part of the fun of being in the world of finance. Keep that curiosity alive, champ!

First, I'd recommend learning how to build out a three-statement model, DCF, comps, and precedent transactions. If you can build them a few times, you'll understand how everything connects and learn better conceptually. Next, I'd suggest building out the LBO and M&A models. Personally, this has helped me the most in actually understanding how to answer the questions rather than just trying to memorize the guides cold.

On top of all the basic + advanced questions, you need to understand this stuff conceptually. People are tired of hearing kids recite their memorized answers out of m&i guides despite not knowing a damn thing about what they’re regurgitating

Watch some videos online and ask chatGPT, there should be a lot of learning resources to help guide you through these concepts.

Understood. Will banks really ask questions about the “stub period” in a DCF or “walk me through an M & A premium analysis” for example. These are some advanced questions from the guide that I didn’t think were applicable to summer internship interviews.
