BLACKROCK Summer Intern

Hey everyone, hope everyone is doing perfect today
I'm going to intern at BlackRock in São Paulo, i was hoping you guys that have more experience, what pops your attention about the work of an intern? Is the hard work, making good questions?
Also what are the biggest mistakes you saw interns doing?

Hey there, future BlackRock star! First off, congrats on snagging that internship in São Paulo – that's no small feat! Now, let's dive into what really makes an intern stand out and some pitfalls to avoid:

What Grabs Attention: - Be Proactive: Show that you're eager to learn and not afraid to take on tasks. Remember, showing interest in the work you're doing gets noticed. - Responsiveness: Aim to respond to emails, messages, and calls within 10-15 minutes. It shows you're on the ball and value communication. - Ask Smart Questions: Engage with your team, especially after meetings or deliverables, to understand the bigger picture. It demonstrates your desire to learn and contribute meaningfully. - Attention to Detail: Whether it's formatting or financial modeling, the little things matter. Make sure you're meticulous with your work.

Common Intern Mistakes: - Justifying Mistakes: Instead of making excuses, own up to any errors, learn from them, and move on. It's all about having a positive attitude. - Being Late: Punctuality is key. If you can't manage to be on time, it raises questions about your ability to meet important deadlines. - Getting Too Comfortable: Maintain a professional demeanor at all times. Don't get too casual with senior staff too quickly – it can backfire. - Lack of Proofreading: Always double-check your work. A small error can lead to a big problem, especially in finance.

Remember, every intern will make mistakes – it's part of the learning process. But it's how you handle those mistakes that can set you apart. Keep a list of any errors you make so you can avoid repeating them, and always strive to improve.

Now, go out there and kill it at BlackRock! Just remember, don't be the intern who gets too comfortable and jokes about throwing dollar bills at the club with a Director. Keep it professional, and you'll do great!

Try to impress your boss. As simple as that. Seriously, I'd say it's important to appear/be curious, and at the same time ask good questions. Even though some people say that every question is a good question, I think it's better to google some basics where possible and ask questions which will show you have thought a bit about the given topic. Also, it wouldn't harm to build a good rapport with your reports, whoever supervises you, as their opinion will be crucial. Be polite, nice, pay attention to detail, ask good questions, and talk to them like a human being, not just your boss.

Really appreciate the advice
One question, if mid of the day I have some question or need advice on my work should I talk to the analyst or associate or VC? Like I want to impress the VC and MD so I would like to be in touch with them...
