Breaking into investing as a junior financial analyst

Hello all,

I’m currently an analyst working at a large buy-side firm in their semi-front office. It’s been over a year and I have realized that it is not an investing role and that I will not gain the essential skills (i.e., modeling) to move into investment research/private equity/hedge funds. The group basically takes care of everything from marketing, performance reporting, to servicing clients.

I’m trying to make the most out of this current role – staying on top of the company’s market views, learning about all the asset classes and instruments that can be traded, and even on the CFA designation path. However, I am stuck at a specialized desk, which I know for sure I do not want to build a career in.

What are some of the things I can do to take advantage of my current situation, and what are the next steps I should start paying attention to? Welcome any comment to check my blind spots and any perspectives, advice, tips are very much appreciated. Thank you!!
