British Student, US MBA - Chances of securing a job in the US?

Ideally you would utilize your cpt/opt to land the initial gig. Your future employer can get to know you and file for your H1b in that time. H1b has been a lottery in the past, with way too many people applying. there were several attempts to revise work permits for immigrants, however nothing was signed off afaik.

If you go to a very good school you should be able to land the relevant interviews, although there are quite a few unemployed local applicants due to the pandemic. please do read up on all executive orders and other legislation; but they are potentially going to be changed by the new administration.

Hi Guys

I'm currently a first year analyst in an international corporate finance consultancy, specifically focusing on real estate (appraisal, asset management and disposals).

After qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 2021 (UK equivalent of a CRE Broker) I intend to study an MBA in the US, preferably within an ivy league university. I particularly like the look of Cornell's one year MBA, although those from others look great also.

I love the US and would much prefer to work somewhere such as New York upon completing the MBA. I still intend to work in real estate, although I would prefer to go client side.

Have many of you seen international students securing jobs in the US after doing an MBA and what do you think the likelihood of securing a position is? I understand sponsoring those from abroad costs firms quite some money.

If you are open to roles other than real estate, specifically STEM related it's easier. Many firms aren't keen on hiring international kids - just being straight here. My ex-GF is British and she had a tough time securing a role in a non-stem area whereas my current girlfriend is indian and it was a piece of cake (software engineer). Real estate is one of those not really quantitative roles that firms won't pay up for.
