Can I Continue Networking with a FT Offer
Joining an options desk at a top BB full-time after graduating this year, and I am curious if it is okay to reach out to some people at hedge funds to begin forming some connections? I wouldn’t phrase it as looking for a job, more so just to hear about some roles to potentially look into down the line
Yeah, just don’t network at the bank you have an offer at. Any other place is fair game.
Agree with this
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's definitely okay to continue networking even after securing a full-time offer. Here are some key points to consider:
Networking is Continuous: Networking doesn't end once you secure a job. It's about building and maintaining relationships throughout your career. This can lead to future opportunities and valuable connections.
Approach: When reaching out to people at hedge funds, frame your conversations as informational. Express your interest in learning about their roles and the industry rather than explicitly looking for a job. This approach is less likely to raise concerns and more likely to foster genuine connections.
Maintaining Relationships: Keeping in touch with headhunters and professionals in the industry is beneficial. It ensures you stay updated on potential opportunities and keeps your network active.
Long-term Benefits: Even if you're not looking to switch immediately, having a strong network can be advantageous in the future. It can help you stay informed about industry trends and potential career moves.
In summary, it's not only acceptable but also advisable to continue networking. Just ensure your approach is about learning and building relationships rather than job hunting.
