Canadian target school kid looking to break into MENA IBD
Hello monkeys.. as the title suggests, Queen’s commerce kid here. I’ll be graduating next summer and have a special interest in working IBD in the Middle East; either in the UAE, Saudi or Bahrain. Even though I’m Canadian I grew up there and hence I’m pretty familiar with the lifestyle and culture in those countries and would love to work there for the untaxed paychecks and more lenient office culture compared to soul sucking investment banking culture we have on this continent.
I would say I’m amongst the top 20% of the kids in my class and aim to pursue an MBA from the UK after completing my years as an analyst. I just wanted to know what the hiring process was to break into IBD in the Middle East, and why don’t a lot of people pursue it? Surely the untaxed income and laid back lifestyle appeals to the majority??

Let's not get into the human rights issues those countries have.
And me avoiding work in those countries will prevent the crisis how exactly?? If I wanted to know about the human rights issues these countries have I’d be posting on a different forum where people who actually have insight into the matter speak. Not seek validation from people like you operating on hearsay on a totally unrelated forum.
As for having a silver spoon up my arse, I worked very hard to be where I am and won’t be hearing from ignorant assholes like you bud.. don’t even know how you were able to make the correlation just from the fact that I go to Queen’s. You must be one of those kids that were never good enough to get in and instead blamed the admissions committee for favoring kids from an affluent background.
While this doesn't necessarily apply to you, let's be real - QC kids are nowhere near as smart as the pedigree of the program would imply they should be. Note that my statement doesn't apply to the immigrant background kids at QC, those ones are pretty smart. But with such a large portion of QC kids, they aren't exactly as competent as many of the kids from schools like Ivey or even Waterloo. There most definitely is a silver spoon issue at Queens.
What heresay is there? You think the likes of MENA countries have a good reputation regarding human rights? Embarassing.

As I’ve stated, I grew up in these countries and have seen the ‘atrocities’ being committed right in front of me. These guys get 2 meals, shelter and a sizable salary they get to send home. Sure they’re worked like horses but it’s still living conditions that there compatriots wherever they hail from in India/Bangladesh dream of. It’s also important to note that they’re not trapped in these countries and can go back home whenever they want but are working there out of their free will.
The respective governments are now also making strides with new rules and regulations but you didn’t know any of that did you??
